  • How do you define a face? That’s the question I asked the @sonyprofilmmaking FX9 yesterday whilst visiting @teralonmedia It wasn’t really a fair test as it was always going to see my photo realistic drawing as a real face. I was in face only autofocus mode so it would only change focus if it saw a face. Featuring @guyvellis @julianwake @bowen1466 Clearly this review is shaping up to be the review to end all reviews 🤓🙃
  • This afternoon I did a little bit of testing of the @sonyprofilmmaking FX9 autofocus. Here are a few clips. Mostly using the “face only” mode so it ignored everything else and if it lost the face it would hold it that position. Very useful. It’s what I used at the end too when I leave frame. Lenses used were were the Sony 70-200 F2.8 GM and the @sigmauk 105mm F1.4 EF with MC11 adaptor. The last shot of me talking was the Sony 35mm F1.8 Shot with S Cinetone mode and also S Log 3 S Gamut Cine (I think but would need to double check that) with the S709 LUT for the Sony Venice downloaded from their website. Basically they look the same which is great. So nothing done in post to the images other than putting the LUT onto the S Log 3 shots. Yes I know, Facebook compression etc etc but you will see the footage properly in my review. 🙂 Check out my stories for more info on the profiles used.
  • After 11 years of camera/ gear reviews on YouTube it gets harder and harder to get shots of them all in different and creative ways. The @sonyprofilmmaking FX9 shots from last night are looking good though. Superb lights from @relio_it and the amazing @aputuretech MC mini RGB light helped a lot! Plus there is some cool motion control in it using the @rhinocg ARC II motorised pan and tilt head which probably won’t look that cool here as this post is not a video! 🙂 The actual shot is the 2nd image in this post. 1st is a crop. Photo with the @slrmagic 35mm micro prime (same image as the little cine lens)

  • The @sigmauk #Sigmafp camera is working a lot better thanks to the new firmware release a week ago. The image issues like the flickering have gone. It’s still got a number of key things I would like to be improved but it’s getting there. It’s a unique camera, something different. Is it better than what is already out there? Well...it’s just different. I am sure that answer satisfies you completely! 😃 There are some photos of Harriet in this post and I will stick them on Flickr for you to look at (Flickr.com/Philipbloom) All of them are shot with the very nice and compact 45mm F2.8 lens that you can buy with the camera. My testing...when I able to get away from the edit suite which is basically where I live right now! That’s the @samsunguk T5 on a @smallrig_official bracket which I use to shoot the (uncompressed) CDNG raw in 10 of 12 bit depending on frame rate.
  • So many great images captured on that #Vanuatu shoot 5 years ago (and 16,000 KM from my home in London) both in video and stills. These photos were taken with my (at the time) one month old #Pentax645z
  • It’s exactly 5 years ago that I was filming in (the very far away) #Vanuatu for The Wonder List with my brand new @sonyprofilmmaking FS7. How is that already 5 years ago?? 5 years on I have the new Sony FX9 to play with and whilst it’s not officially a replacement for the FS7 II it feels like the successor in every way. Very impressed with it so far...more to come when I have used it more. Photo probably taken by @cassiusmk (was it?)
  • (8 Photos) I have the @sonyprofilmmaking FX9 for a week and half to make a video for Sony with it. I will be getting my own one soon. In the meantime I have set it up to pretty much the same way my FS7 is set up. Can you use it with just the stuff out of the box? Absolutely. It is way better than my FS7 was out of the box. For me though, I need a proper EVF (The Zacuto Gratical eye) and when shooting on a tripod my @smallhd HD 702 touch monitor. The Gratical Eye requires power and rather annoyingly there still is no power out on the FX9 without the extension back. My SWIT BP batteries JUST have enough of the D-Tap out to fit the plug, barely though. There are some @hawkwoods_uk_ltd batteries with D-Tap on the rear but I really don't want to buy a whole new set of batteries. That's the @rodemic NTG 4 with a @smallrig_official mic holder. The camera's LCD screen is on the Zacuto Z-American arm and the monitor is on a nice little thing called the z-rail ball mount (uses Nato rails) from Zacuto too. The EVF is also on a @zacuto EVF bracket. It's on the @miller_tripods Compass 12 head. All photos taken with @sonyalpha A7RIII and @sigmauk ART 105mm F1.4 @sonyprousa
  • It’s finally here! Two months after giving the rental one back my own @fujifilmx_uk #GFX100 has arrived! I LOVE this camera. Both the stills and video are stunning. 100 megapixel stills are astonishing and it’s the fastest stills medium format camera I have ever used. Video wise it’s 10bit internal, 4K medium format with no crop, rolling shutter isn’t bad, it has very good IBIS and the phase detection autofocus isn’t too shabby!! If you haven’t seen my film “Charmolipi” yet then head over to my YouTube to watch it. I think it’s the best thing I have made... The first photo is with the @metabones speedbooster for Hasselblad lenses giving it effectively the full film medium format frame of view. Second photo is the crazy good @venuslaowa 17mm wide angle. Way wider than any other FUJI GFX lens, equivalent to around 13mm full frame. I love this camera! Time to sell my GFX 50s! Photos with the Sony A7Riv and the amazing @sigmauk 105mm F1.4 ART
