EDIT: All we can do is hope for good weather. If it is really crappy then we just have to find somewhere to grab cover…keep an eye on this blog and my twitter page for updates to locations if the heavens open up! If the rain is bad I suggest we go to nearby bar On Anon which is quite big and should be able to take us all!
Finally, I am doing one in London on Saturday August the 14th. But register your interest here!! We are going to meet at a very central location, Piccadilly Circus. Very touristy but it’s a space where security guards won’t kick us out and it has a nice synergy with the NYC Times Square Meet up also great to shoot! 5pm on August 14th.Let’s make it bigger than the LA and NY ones combined!!
The very exciting news it Captain Crane himself, Eric Kessler of Kessler Crane has donated a $500 voucher for use in his online store for the best film of the event. So bring your cameras and shoot something there, submit it to a group I will create on Vimeo and Eric alongside Canonfilmmakers.com’s Cristina Valdivieso and Jon Connor will judge the entrants. Adds a little spice to what is surely going to be the biggest and best meet up ever!
Let’s do some great timelapses, so bring your remotes! If not just bring your gear and hang out. I will bring my Kessler Crane Motorized Dolly with me.
OLD POST: First up on the 14th July in Manhattan is the NYC meet up part 2. The last one was brilliant, in Times Square. Different venue this time. We are going to meet at Brooklyn Bridge Park, nice views of the city and the bridge Let’s meet at 6pm.
Friday night the 16th July is the Boston one, in association with BCFPUG and tied in with my workshops there. Details here. Location soon to be announced.

I am interested in the London meet up but, there is no link for it?
this is all info there is at moment. more info will be posted here…
Sounds great!
But what about Germany? or Belgium?
Düsseldorf? Brussels?
Am sure a lot of people would show up!
Love your passion for the craft and your blog + efforts building a community!
I second that Stijn. A Brussels meet-up would be great!
Love to hear more on the London meet up (will try and get the day of work)
Love to hear more on the London meet up! (will try and get the day of work)
Hey Phil!
Can’t wait to see you next wednesday!
May I suggest you do the meet up in central park? Its pretty big, but if you set a specific location in the park, it could turn out to be a swell plan!
Cool! A London meet up at last!
At last! I’m definitely in for the London meet up!!
Finally London!!!!!!! Let us know all the details asap Philip!!!!!!
Ps:can i ask for ur advise?would u choose 70-200 mk II or 85mm 1.2 II + 135mm f 2.0?????
Sweet, NYC meet up sounds awesome. The Beer Garden in Queens might be a cool place to meet. It’s a huge space, both indoor and outdoor with a large variety of beer to choose from.
Either way, I can’t wait for the details cause I’d like to be there to talk camera talk.
would be at the London but I’m shooting a wedding 🙁
Flying from Australia to London during that time, I’d definitely be interested!
I am interested on the London meet up…Keep posting details.
Perhaps Trafalgar Square for London meet up? Nice big open space, public, and central.
Hey Philip!
I’m gonna arrive in london on September 20th.
Are there any events at this date?
Thanks!
Interested in NYC
I’m excited for another NYC meet up! The East Village, Manhattan would be nice, it’s usually always festive there at night.
Hi Philip,
Definitely interested in London Meetup.
What about future workshops? are there any planned in Europe?
Finally! Your Brit fans get to get their hands on you Phil, it’s about time! I’m definitely interested in London (work permitting)!
Don’t live in New York and won’t be there for meet-up unfortunately but what about Washington Square Park? It’s a little far from midtown but it’s nice and really would be a great place to hang out.
I’m interested in the London meet up. Look forward to hearing more about it.
typical! my first holiday in 5 years and you decide to do a London meetup while I’m away
i can take a hint!
hey Phil, cant wait for the London one, hopefully it wont rain!! what about in the Southbank? nice view!
Def up for a London meetup if poss!
Yep. London is the one for me.
I am interested in London.
Consider my interest registered to the max 🙂
A couple of suggestions for the NYC gathering:
Bryant Park, right around the corner from Times Square, is a great spot. A little less crowded, so folks can chat. And from 6 to 7, there’s free jazz! Great for those who want to show up early and give there Zoom’s and shotgun mic’s a workout.
The South Street Seaport is a decent location. Plenty of food, booze available, indoors in case of bad weather, and the best view of the Brooklyn Bridge in the city. A bit touristy, but then again, our last gathering was Times Square, and nothing is more touristy than that.
How about Paris? Any future plans?
Definitely interested in the London meet, would need to know more details first though…
more details? nothing more to say! it’s just there. It’s a meet up…that’s it!
Hell yeah for the LONDON meetup. from the looks of it may be big.
Hey Phil let me know what you think of this flick. thanks!
http://vimeo.com/13146812
waiting for the next sf meetup!
London! Awesome!
Definitely up for a London meet-up – about time too. Come on home Mr Bloom.
I am super pumped for a Boston meet up! Where in the city would you have it?
on for London. 🙂
have you decided on a place for the new york meet up? if not, battery park would be cool. Or the south street sea port.
Great! Glad London is next. Looking forward to it.
Count me (+1) in for the London meet, Sir.
I look forward to the London meetup!
I’m up for my first PB meetup in London. Looking forward to it.
The photo of the NYC location you posted is not Brooklyn Bridge Park, the photo is from Empire Fulton Ferry State Park–both are on the Brooklyn side of the river, but Empire Fulton Ferry State Park is on one side of the bridge, and Brooklyn Bridge Park is on the other side.
Both have great views of the city, but if you want the view from the photo you posted, you want Empire Fulton Ferry State Park.
it’s BBP now
Sweet! Timelapses a go go 🙂
Interested in London meet up how long is it likely to last as I live in South Wales so either need to make last train/bus or book somewhere to stay
no idea!
Damn…at the moment were recording a band at our studio that day, hopefully I can make it.
I hate heights so I hope were not going up in the London Eye haha 🙂
Great you’re coming to Brooklyn! Brooklyn Bridge Park is an excellent choice. The park is pretty big so it would be good to have a specific meeting place… I suggest somewhere near the bar located at Pier 1 at the foot of Old Fulton Street corner Furman Street. For all those coming from Manhattan and other locations take the A or C train and get off at the High Street stop (first stop in Brooklyn)… head down a few blocks towards the bridge and the East river. The park and Pier 1 are just to the left of the bridge.
It’s going to be a challenge for me to get there. There are still a few things to arrange. But I really hope I can make it to London on August 14th.
I’m trying to get an early flight from Amsterdam to London. (Any suggestions on which airport is the closest?), book a night in a nearby hotel and get a flight back to Amsterdam on Sunday.
Shit I might take a tent and park myself in the middle of the Queens garden (Hoping they won’t shoot me. All I have to shoot back is a couple of Canon lenses).
And then there is that T-Shirt….
hope you can make it sir
Is there a plan “b” for the NYC meet up? It seems the park is closed until 2011. There’s always the Little Red Lighthouse under the George Washington Bridge.
http://www.brooklynbridgepark.org/go/the-park/the-park-today/empire-fulton-ferry
Empire-Fulton Ferry closed in January for renovations. Brooklyn Bridge park, right next to it, is open though.
Moved to bbp
Really looking forward to the London meetup, I’ll be there!

Chuck
hey, does attending the meet ups cost money? I’d love to come, your truly an inspiration.
nah! it’s just for fun and to meet people.
BBP it is. Any particular spot, or should I just look for someone shooting 16 simultaneous timelapse 🙂
any recommended spots?
Might I suggest the Christopher Columbus Park for the Boston meetup?
It’s a great area and fun to shoot in the evening.
the Boston one is being arranged by BFCPUG not me
hey philip,
are you thinking of doing a restaurant or a scenic location for the boston meetup?
the Boston one is being arranged by BFCPUG not me…
I’m not too familiar with BBP, but someone else recommended Fulton St. That sounds good.
looking forward to London meet up, it’ll be good to meet new friends and bend a few ears on shooting with DSLRS. nice one Philip.
Would love to attend, really looking forward to meeting new friends and learning DSLR shooting stuff.
Cheers Philip.
Excellent news on the London meet. I’m going to the Empire Movie-Con at the BFI Southbank during the day so will be a great way to end the day and only a short walk along the river!
My only issue is what to do with all my equipment as cameras are not permitted at Movie-Con… I;m sure i’ll work something out though.
Lastly, where can we register our interest? There’s no link in the post.
it’s not as formal as registering. Just turn up
Brill PB London!
Sign me up for the London meet 🙂
Hi Phil.

Hi Philip

non camera question… you a Taco Bell fan? the Taco Bell in Lakeside Mall London is now open!
(just thought i’d post that in case you were, i still remember when they had one in london back in the 90’s)
Hey is there a rain date or something for NYC? It’s pouring rain and the weather reports doesn’t show any slowing later at 6, it actrully shows more rain and lighting.
See you all at the Eye…. will pack a few Cucumber Sandwiches 😉
Great meet-up in Brooklyn. Beautiful night…
http://www.vimeo.com/13352968
101 % interested in the London Meetup.

Long time follower. Totally up for London meetup.
London meetup sounds good! See you there.
My friend and I are hoping to come to the London Meet-up! Anyone know any good/cheap hotels to stay in for the night? Thanks, Jb.
I’m there for your London Meet.
yep, me and the missus will be there for this, looking forward to it!
whoops, London one that is
Plan to be at this London meet-up.
Great stuff
if you want to do great timelapses of the london eye with best sight and little stress, visitors who meet up august 14 could rent a hotel room at one of the upper floors of the “royal horseguards” hotel at the opposite side of river thames. i did one last year which you can see here: http://vimeo.com/13635997
is going to be great! see you all there
Thats great! I cant wait fpr this meet up!
Looking forward to the London meetup Phil! Should be great! I’ll be bringing my new 7D along! See you there! Jonny.
What a bummer!
That’s right in the European vacation zone of the last three weeks in August….otherwise I’d have Eurostarred it over from Brussels. I’ll have my DSLR and remote in the south west of France on a beach! I’ll join you in spirit.
Any plans on a Central European Meet Up in say – Amsterdam/Brussels/Paris later in the year?
I’m so there!!
Think I owe you a beer (cocktail) for all the advice over the last two and half years Phil!
Excellent! Myself + 1 to attend!
First time posting on here but been following the website for a while now. Great stuff I would like to say. See you in London town!
I’m there!
Can’t wait for the London meet. It’s been far too long! I shall be bringing as many students as I can rustle up!
Damm you bloom just booked to go to the red bull x fighters at Battersea power station and guess when it starts….. 5 pm…. And I live in London, when you eventually come here I cant go ….. Damm your aperture settings and may your focal lengths be large (not sure if that one’s bad)……may your viewfinders fog up and those cats of yours poo in your primes….
Sorry about that everyone….lost it a bit there …. Great news Phillip hope everyone has a great time.
…I’ll get you bloom…. I’m going to team up with german bloke and send some money to that Gillimott geezer in the good old USA to re-open hostilies….. Together we can TAKE OVER THE W………I’ve got the whole world in my hands, I’ve got the whole world……………
Hi Philip,
I’d love to come to the London one. If I’m not too busy at work, I’ll definitely come along.
Cheers,
Stewart
Gutted, I’m in Wolverhampton that day. Would have been great to come along to this!!
London meet up. Looking forward to it!
I’ll be there.
Not 100% convinced about the location though – it’s a pretty small place ’round Eros and usually crawling with tourists.
Shame the Trafalgar square photography regulations are so fascistic. Victoria embankment might have more space and less hassle.
Philip,
as your big fan, i was hoping to find opportunity to meet you somewhere or attend your course .. now you are coming somewhere most near to my country ( UAE-Dubai) … now i think this is closet place possible to me ..
I will arrange to meet up in london ..
Count me in for London meeting..

I’m coming from Dubai.I want meet you personally and shake your hand.
that is a long way Hassan!
Agree with AndyB on the location point.
I’m shure that Phillip well thought about this change
Embankment would also be nice, maybe we can go there from Picadily ?
PS:
The good thing of Piccadilly is we can have some nice Asian food in Soho after the shoot 🙂
Any how, looking forward the 14TH.
we will make it work!
I`ll be there.
Is this purely a video shoot? Do I need more than just my 5dMkii and a prime?
Thanks in advance,
Pete
bring your cat with if you want 😉 it’s about connecting with each first and foremost
Okey dokey!
But just to be clear I need only my cat and to be social. Not a tripod, plenty of memory on my cf, certain type of lense…?
Looking forward to it. 🙂
I’m very interested. Fairly new to filmmaking. Hoping I’ll be able to make my way from Liverpool for it!
Bloody hell. (Is that correct to say here?)
This Yankee will be arriving in London about 18 hours too late for this.
I hope it is a great meet up nonetheless!
Can’t wait for this. It will be good to meet you Phil. Ive got a pretty cool idea for a timelapse. See you there.
Sounds good; see you there 🙂
I’ll be there, with a GoPro Hero on a stick…
I’ll be in London that weekend so I’ll come over and join in. I bought a 550D a few weeks ago and I’m looking forward to soaking up some of the knowledge you guys have.
We’ll be there! 🙂
What time is the meetup Philip? I need to book my journey from Cork to London. If the meet is in the afternoon I can make it back the same day and save an overnight stay.
thanks
Moira
details are in the blog Moria…5pm i think
Hey Philip,
Thanks for organising this, gonna be great to meet up with fellow film makers and geek out.
Looking forward to it.
Cheers
Ryan
See you all on Saturday!
Though I will look like a fool cause my camera has been sent for repairs:-(
Registering my interest In the London meet up. It’s been a long time coming but will be worth it!! Exciting stuff.

Wish I could be at this very epic event! Hope you have a great time!

Hi Philip,
It’s very kind of you holding this on my birthday! Hope to meet you and everyone next Saturday. Looking forward to it and my birthday.
BR, James
P.S Did I mention it was my birthday on the 14th?
Will be there, and bringing at least one other person with me. Always been curious as to these meet ups, so thanks for doing one on this side of the pond. Looking forward to it
I can’t wait for this event. I’m pretty new to this whole DSLR filming, but these sort of event’s can be a great way of kick starting something special. I do hope I get a chance to meet Mr Bloom, and meet some great people in London.
I’ve only just recently got my 550d and i’m scrambling to get some equipment ready in time, but i’ll try my damned hardest.
Are tripods aloud in London? and does it really matter if I don’t have a Zacuto Z-Finder?
Anyway, i’ll see you all on the 14th Aug. I’m SO excited!
tripods are fine! see you there!
Hay,
Is there an age limit to the meet, im 16 so i was wondering if i could come along ?
Cheers
Jonny
Me and my 7D will both be there. 😀
Really looking forward to this!
This sounds pretty exciting and good timing too! I have been saving up for a dslr for months now and I should be able to get my first one on Friday 14th, the day before this event. I’m getting a Canon 550d, so this meet up should help me start getting some nice video and images. I am 17, so this should be a great opportunity. Thanks Philip! 😀 Hope I see you there!
I meant Friday 13th 😛
As Luke would say upon entering the Rebel briefing room to shut down the energy field protecting the new Death Star located on the forest moon of Endor as Han is looking for his stolen Imperial shuttle crew to go down there and do it….phew.
I’m with you too
🙂
I’m there.
Look forward to meeting everyone at the London meet-up for some chat, info and filming.
Hey Count me in on that event….
i’m in Paris and i’m a big fan of your work and love to exchange on your experiences…i’ll get a train ticket to London.
Hope it’s still okay?
take care
Looks like it will be fun, I’ll be there with the cheapest and dirtiest equipment 😀
No plans to do any more meet-ups but further up north or southern scotland? I would realy love to go, but London a bit too far.
Coming with someone for the meet-up. A Japanese cinematographer friend. We’ll both be armed and ready to shoot.
Is it still all cameras welcome, or just DSLR’s? we would be with DSLRs but just curious, in case anyone else I knew was interested. Thanks, and see you there.
Bring a kettle, I don’t care. It’s the people that is important!
Maybe I WILL bring a kettle!
hehe, see you there
actually just bring a Stabucks please! 🙂
Milk and sugar 😉
I actually just might bring you a coffee. Or at least buy you a drink to say thank you
large skinny cap please!
Was good to my word!
And you deserved it too. Thanks for a fun evening and a chance to break out my Camera. Now I’ve experienced what one of these Camera meet ups is like (though I think I was a bit shy on the whole socialising front, hehe. Will do better next time) The sun came out just for the meetup, how good was that?
Enjoy, and thanks again
Looking forward to this event. How do I register interest in this? Do I just turn up with my camera and glidetrack?
just turn up!
love to come and meet you, see you there Philip, thanks 🙂
I shall be there! 550D et all!
You should all come check out the Video Media section of Sound On Sound magzine for lots of tips, DSLR or otherwise. Shameless plug over.
http://www.soundonsound.com/videomedia
TrashMixMedia will definitely be there…
DA
TrashMixMedia
I will be there…
In piccadilly circus now, praying for sunshine or a snorkel tomorrow!
I’ve been waiting for this London meet-up for ages and now that it’s finally happening I’m in LA and can’t make it! Alas, have a great time and I’ll be there for the next one.
I’m really excited about it!
I just hope not to rain! Would be so cool to make some fotage outdoors….
But its kind of wierd, I’m living two years in London and I never heard of some like this… Usualy people from this industry always stay on their own group and never mix with others, even more in a meeting just for fun without any special reason…. This is really good to be happening… I’m from Brazil and the people in there, from the industry are the same, never would be “mixing” with normal “people”…
So, thumbs up for Philip, great iniciative! The meeting didn’t happen yet but I’m already hoping for more!
See you there…looks like the weather is clearing up!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/8?area=London
I’d like to come along – any news on wet weather plans?
top of the blog andy
Philip, thank you so much for the brilliant meet-up. It was really nice meeting you again. can’t wait to see what your timelapse looks like! Nel
More Europe please, would be awesome to be there!
Preferably the Netherland,Belgium or Germany.
Great meet up today! Got some sweet pictures that i’ll put online with a link at some point. Didn’t get a chance to speak to you Phil but I had a message from Alec McSimpson from D&A films, he asked me to tell you that he was there but had to dash before you arrived! there we go, message delivered, weight off my mind!
o.
Hey Big Phil, what a pleasant, down to Earth and real chap you are, you gave time for everyone, no BS, so much camera love from all who turned up and the heavens even stopped for us.
Good to see and feel so much passionate enthusiasm, reminded me of when me and my dad used to go to super8 clubs in the 70’s/ early 80s, that was the last time you saw this kind of camaraderie between amateur and professional, funny how circles come again.
Hope you enjoyed your Wagamamas, I know I did. Good people, great time, look forward to the next.
Anil 🙂
great meeting you Anil…Good luck with fillm!
Was a great meeting,
Didn’t get a chance to say hello to you Phil.
But i met some interesting people, shot some pictures for a timelapse, i’ll put it online when i’m donne, and post the link.
Also made some snapshots, put them on my flicker:
