10 million visitors big prizes competition!

Competition is now closed!

I will sift through the many thousands of entries and select all the ones that have passed, then work out a way I can randomly select the winners and once I have done that I will do a live draw. It will be asap. I promise!

    1. The last time I was so pissed was when Bush got elected. I mean when they made him a president. He was not elected. Your dad’s name was impossible to find.
Best Regards from Sin City Las Vegas

  1. same thing happened to me…guess I’ll try again in Firefox instead of IE.

Thorsten Kuttig – LOL:D..I got asked a question and think, I answered it correctly:
“The question does not exist for the quiz”
    and now?…nothing…the quiz disappeared *thumbsup*
    cheers

  2. Yeah! I got a certificate! And i even got the “timelpase” question right 😉 … What do i do now? Am i already in the big random draw or should i print the certificate and send it to you … with a signature from my parents for sure!

It was fun searching through your blog… but really tough questions! Congratulations for the 10th million to come…

    Greetings from Germany,
    Sebastian

  3. #19 was tough for me. I started reading your blog only around the time you got your 5D. Sent here from Vimeo via your Return to Dungeness short which was captivating. Fun quiz! Got 16 out of 19 (pass!) after one try. Hope I win something, I’ve never won anything in my life out of a draw!

      1. Thanks… Do I win anything?
Very careful research to find some answers and weird deductions. It was kind of
a fun game, very tough though, your blog search bar was a Saviour. Even though some answers weren’t on here quite directly…

          1. Sorry I meant about the first person to get 100% and some special surprise?..
Since it was my first attempt from this email. I guess I would have won
if you only could take the quiz once :P. Wish id seen earlier.

Its fine, this contest is still amazing.. Thanks for putting it on.

              1. Yeah Gord Stephen got it I just saw on twitter. I wasn’t sure whether it counted before.
I am happy at least it was gotten by a fellow Canuck! see u at Profusion!

I am looking forward to it.

  4. 16 out of 19 right – don’t worry, I don’t stalk! haha – I’m only a recent ‘follower’ and I had to do some intense searching on here, but all the info’s available!

  5. Does a “pass” mean we’re qualified for the drawing? I got a 79%, which i pretty much expected. A few of those were tough! Number 10? I had no clue who that was or how that answer was supposed to be located. Oh well!

  6. Wow, after reading your blog for over a year now I thought i know everything about you:P … got just one question wrong^^

By the way, thank you for all the helpful information on your blog;)

  7. Philip Blooms $10 million giveaway! Did 17 out of 19. Had to try two times though only took me couple of mins. Seems all those hours I’ve spent on your site might pay off, after all 😉

Hmm now how do I generate 743000 site visits in a day so I increase my chances MUHA HA HA **deep, booming evil galactic emperor laugh**

  8. I was in the middle of taking this, and I got “the question does not exist” when I answered.

I’ll be d@mned if I can figure out when you used the Brevis for the inspiration for the “people” series, also. :-/

  9. Got through 8 questions then it crashed… Reloaded the page and it said I got 5 right out of 20…

Safari seems to not like the quiz. 🙁

    I’ll try again later!

  10. OK, I give in – that elusive last answer has defeated me. Time to get some sleep and then its up early to queue at Mr Job’s door like the sad geek I am.

  11. Argh! So close yet soooo far, I am a miserable failure by a measely 6% aka 14/19…PANTS! THough on the bright side I’ve found a bunch of older articles I have to read! 🙂

  12. Interesting quiz works best for people who follows Mr. Bloom, figure out some answers according to Philip’s passionate character towards his work.

Thank you for putting this on, love to have and use one of the prizes, they are all quality!

  13. 10 Million…Jesus man, can you wrap your head around that?? That’s crazy. I remember coming across your iWeb blog a few years ago when I was shapping for a Letus and have tried to keep up ever since. I hope you feel proud of yourself. You’ve really inspired a lot of people and have been one of the thought leaders that have changed, for the better, how we tell stories. Viva La Bloom. Congrats.

  14. Took me a couple tries but I finally got it, no rules against trying multiple times right? One question was eluding me, I can’t wait to find out what the answers are, i’m a bit stumped on a few of those but I don’t know which ones.

  15. Dang, I got 2 out of 19. I wish there were more questions about technical or film-related subjects instead of cat names and stuff. My brainpan only has space for like four cat names, and I can only remember three of them as it is. Codecs or framerates would have been a lot easier.

    Anyway, congrats on 10 million.

OT: Do you accept prototype hardware mail for feasibility testing?

  16. Well I forgot to say “Thank You” to all the contributors
with their products and support, This was fun, but I hope the 80% score to win a prize can be lowered to 50% since I’m new to the Bloom marketing campaign and social media driven style marketing.

Seems a bit unfair, but I’m not here to complain,
I just want to wan a free prize.

    🙂

Honesty never hurts, unless you make it sound cheesy!

      1. Yeah I agree.. I have been following since a year.. still I spent like 3 hours, 5 tries to pass.. I really wanted to give up since searching and looking each post wasn’t working for me.. I sat down and analysed which were incorrect answers and tried harder on the 5th go.. I am too unlucky on these lottery things but I wanted to participate. If it was only one prize then it should have been set to 100%. 😀

        I still don’t know answers to 3 questions. 🙁

  17. This is very VERY kind from your part (and your partners), that makes people want to participate even more with your blog.

Oh, and congratulations for this 10M visits!!

  18. Thanks Philip for everything you do, for inspiring and helping so many of us!
It just goes to show how everything you do for us is great, having nearly had 10 million visitors!
Personally, I was recently linked to you by a friend, and now I follow you on twitter and read almost every blog post etc that you post; which are always fun/helpful!

    Thanks!

    …also, the best I’ve got is 17/19, (89%) 😀

  19. It took me ages to figure out the right answers 😀
finally got 16 out of 19.
I hope you will reveal the correct answers after the quiz has finished 😉

  20. I’ve just spent all morning doing it!

Kept getting stuck around 14 correct and just going round in circles. Finally passed with 17 right 89/100 and printed the certificate – how sad is that?

    Thanks!

  21. Hi Phillip
    i got my certificate
it says PASS but i “only” have 79%

I’m in the final list to get any of these great prices?

How are you going to distribute all that gifts?? i mean, witch is going to be your “criteria”

    Thanks and congratulations

      1. Yeah! but why the certificate says “PASS”
maybe 79% is the same than 80% for the quiz brain… i dont know!

What should i do? can i do it again?

Think that the first ones to answer the quiz didn’t get any clues!!!!

        thanks

  22. After about 1000 tries I finally made the 80% cutoff. After all those tries I sure hope I’m still eligible for prizes.

    By the way…
I have recently found this blog as a recommendation through my Google reader. It is by far my favorite to read.

Philip, you are great and I am always excited to read your posts.

      1. No prob. I appreciate the luck.

I use some of the cool info and reviews you provide to help the small college I am an instructor at to make decisions on purchases and such.

Loved the camera shootout so far.

  23. Hi Philip,
I started following you only at the beginning of the year so I had a hard time to get 80% but the quiz is very interesting (and prizes too), congratulations.

  24. Wow that was hard, but I managed 17 out of 19 (89%) and learned loads of stuff, like how set up timelapses properly while browsing through the blog. Was definitely time well spent. I’m so proud of my certificate I tweeted it 😀

Also discovered a Top Tenuous link to Phillip!! The company I was working for last year bought Mark Dawson’s (LondonMarkFilms) XDCAM HD F350. Mark made a very nice film at Dungeness with it when Phillip filmed Return to Dungeness there. My boss was well pleased with the price he got the camera for. And I spent most of last summer shooting with it.

Anyone else got any Top Tenuous links to Phillip?!
    !

  25. Been busy with the quiz for over one and a half hour. After question 19, it says ““The question does not exist for the quiz” and then….nothing at all.. no score…no closing statements…just dead end, it seemes.

Don’t know what happened with the results?

  26. Sorry…won’t try again. But at least I know your dad’s name, your date of birth, your social security number, your eating disorder, how often you pick your noise and what kind of dirty movies you watch…;)

  27. Hey Philip, just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to share your work and knowledge with the world. And, thank you for setting up this contest. It took me a while to figure out what cameras you’ve owned, but I finally passed with an 84%! Keep up the great work!

  28. Woohoo – after several attempts, I finally passed! Got stuck on #2 in particular – you might want to check your facts on this one – I found a different “right” answer – right in your blog. Anyway, congrats on your 10 millionth!

      1. From your blog…

“Obviously the key thing for me this year was the Canon 5DmkII, although it was released in late 2008 I bought mine at the end of <>…”

  29. Finally after 5 tries I got 84% whooo! I’m entered in the draw even if I failed before using the same email right? Let me tell you Bloom you had some damn tough questions that I was only “slightly wrong” about, like your 5DMK2 purchase date, it took me a while to see my mistakes.

  30. Wow, I’ve tried it twice and have only gotten 10 out of 19 both times. I feel good that I’m not a stalker, but feel bad I can’t get into to drawing. How many times can you try?

  31. That was great fun. Took me many tries to get over the limit, but finally made it. Well worth the time, as I discovered a number of interesting older posts on your blog while searching for the answers.

  32. Finally got 16 right.

Great to see a fellow ex-Sky (and Twickenham!) guy ‘givin it large’ in the big wide world.

Yours is a great site, Philip – in fact, pretty much the ‘Go To’ site for this DSLR revolution. And 10 million visitors – wow!

I’m an editor who’s always hankered after getting in at the other end of the process (then I can’t blame anyone else for not getting that wide/tight/mid-shot) and I’m finally going to get around to it.

    I see a 5D on the horizon.

Keep up the great work my man!

    Cheers.

  33. That was tough, took me 4 attempts but I have only known about the site for 1 month! 16 out of 19 was final score, pretty sure I messed up the Brevin 35mm question and the ‘cameraman friend’. Not sure which other one.

Have to say for us new to the site this was a great way to read through some of your old articles, I never realised you had posted so much great info.

Purchased my 7D today so would love one of this items to help out with the new kit!

    Keep up the great work.

  34. Philip,

    100% yow!
Thanks for putting this up and drawing more people to DSLR’s.

Kudo’s to your vendor partners as well for passing along all the great items.
Says alot about them as well.
I sense a Zoom H4n is on the horizon too! (One can hope!)

    Cheers

  35. Phil, thanks for being such an inspiration! I have learned so much from your blog, I am in awe of your body of work, and I hope that fact that this is my first post will not penalize me in your selection of prize-winners. I promise to contribute more to the conversation!

  36. 100%!

Guess I’m a definitive Bloom fan. You should do a special separate lottery among “100% fanatics” like me 😀

Thank you again Philip for all your posts on this blog and especially for your incredible ability to answer all those emails with tons of questions.

  37. Gotta say this is the most generous blog contest I’ve ever come across on the web. So many wonderful goodies! Many thanks to the sponsors. Hello, Canon! 😉

  38. Congrats on the trend Philip and cheers for a chance to win some goodies! Also do Greenpeace work myself, will be in the Arctic again this summer and taking the 5D along.

  39. Hey Phil,

Will my entry be in the running if I have taken multiple attempts using the same email to achieve the 80%?

PS – Thank you for providing such a wonderful resource and forum, it is great to have someone who is willing to share their work and knowledge in an industry that is often ambiguous. I have found your site to be an invaluable resource and a source of inspiration.

    All the best, Ryan

  40. Tough & fun quiz Philip, and a great audience engagement idea. Took several tries, but I finally passed with an 84. Congrats in advance on your 10m milestone!

  41. after we get over 80%, is there anything else that we have to do to be in the draw? Like send you the certificate? Thanks for the competition!

  42. YES! 84% finally! I don’t know how many times I took that thing, but I know more than I should about you Philip.

Let me say congrats on the 10 mill, and also thank you for sharing so much of your knowledge freely. I’ve learned a ton from your site and instructional videos.

So far I’ve sold my Leica and have a 35mm M lens up for sale all to purchase a 5D (still wish you would have bought it even though you can’t use it;).

  43. i think its gonna be more like a few months than a few weeks to get to 10,000,000.. half a million hits left and according to the stats about 5,000 average per day..

damn.. probably even less chance of winning anything! 🙂

  44. Over 80%!! Finally!

Fairly new to your site and got to learn whole lot about you and your work through this test!

Great site! And looking forward to learning more from your postings!

    And congrats on 10M!

      1. hey Phillip

you should have the prizes also be random, like when you pick a name that’s a winner you should also have a hat on the side with all the prizes in it and pick one randomly also

thanks for this amazingg contest bro 🙂

  45. That was worthwhile…. Now I know your Cats and Fathers names. Maybe my time would be better spent shooting with what I have instead of dreaming about what I haven’t 🙂

  46. I’m surprised there’s no manfrotto prize available?

After all I bought my first Manfrotto pro tripod based on your suggestion (and I love it, thanks) after many views of your site 🙂

        1. If Garrett Brown is reading Steadicam misspelled (and his own name BTW)… :-p

A real rig like the Pilot would be nice, but that’s my dreaming.

Oh wait, I have a contact at Tiffen/Steadicam…

          1. By the way I wrote my contact an e-Mail right after my last posting, but I’m afraid it’s too late for that, only 100k clicks left for lots of trigger happy clickers… Sorry I haven’t thought about this earlier 🙁

    1. I have bought almost everything from recommendation from Philip too. 🙂 7D, zacuto V2, Glidetrack Shooter, 17-55mm f2.8 and just today received my 35mm 1.4L. Can’t wait to do some tests at low light. Next in line is 70-200mm 2.8L but thats way too far at the moment. I need a glidecam now for supersmooth on th run footage.

  47. whether or not i win anything, this has certainly been fun.

cool contest, cool site. has recently moved into my top 10 most frequented sites since discovering it a few months ago. content for people using or interested in using DSLRs is invaluable.

  48. Long time lurker, just registered.

Just wanted to thank you for opening my eyes to the world of DSLR video, and curse you for all the extra expenses it has brought along 😉

ps. The Letus VF looks wicked. CARBON FIBER BABY!!! Hope I win

  49. Score: 5 out of 100. that proves I only heard of PBloom two weeks ago, bought his video about using my 7D,think he’s a cool guy with good tips…and that I better start reading his blogs before I take another test!

  50. Woo-Hoo! 89%! That was fun, Philip. Thanks for putting so much fantastic content online. I’m looking forward to meeting you at the Filmmaker’s Intensive in June.

      1. I feel like a bit of an idiot now haha – that must have caught a few people out!
I didn’t realise I could pick more than one… by more than one answer I thought I could pick one of the three and they would all be right… never mind…

Finally got it though, sorry for doing the quiz about a million times too!
        I can finally rest now…

        100% 😀

        1. Total envy Jonnywb 😀 I got 85% tho still I’d love to figure out answers to three questions i was wrong about… I will reach 100% too, that’s just pure ambition 😉

  51. Aaaah ! I’ve finally got 100% !!
So, now we know you so much Philip, when do you come to Paris for a meet up ?:)
    And thanks for this quizz.

  52. Wow, that kept me busy for a while, looks like I did okay though =) 90%!.

It was actually awesome, flicking through all those old blog posts, some interesting reads there!

    Here’s hoping!

    *fingers crossed*

  53. Phil, I didn’t realize you added one more question. I have retaken the test and did 85%, but the ProProfs website still shows 74% only 🙁

  54. Took me whole day to figure some of the answers out – eventually managed 🙂 Seems Im not such a big fan I thought… heh sorry – just have terrible memory when it comes to names 🙂 Congrats on 10 mil 🙂

  55. Wouhouu!! 😀 after trying n times the test, finally got those 80% required!
You know what’s cool about this quizz? It’s that you discover so many posts/videos you didn’t notice before…

Some questions are still bugging me…. I’ll continue my researches :p

  56. Passed on my 3rd try! I was only one question away. Very excited for the draw.

Thank you so much for giving something back to your fans and admirers Philip!

    -Jim

          1. Just to ensure that they have been entered in the draw, but its not that big of a deal. 5000 views in 20min…looks like tomorrow is going to be the last day to enter!

  57. Finally passed with 80% exactly! Took me a few days but I finally got there. I can’t wait for the drawing, there seem to be more and more awesome prizes added daily. Thanks again Philip for all you are doing for DSLR filmmaking, and giving us these resources we can use to go out and further expand the DSLR canon of films.

    Cheers!

  58. Well, it took me about as many tries as you’ve had visitors, but I finally passed!

Congrats on 10 mil Phil! (see what I did there?)

    – Andrew W.

  59. Philip,

Great contest, definitely worth the effort to enter!

Love to see Lucasfilm offer “A Day at Skywalker Ranch” … just kiddin’, but I’d still love to see it (Rick if you’re reading). 😉

    ‘J-dog

  60. 16/20 80% I could swear I had a 100% but probably had a few typos which killed my score. Anyway good luck to everyone. Sure learned a thing or two!

  61. Yay, finally passed! Felt fidgety like taking a test in school… and I was hoping for a big bold “Pass!” written personally by Professor Bloom with a scratch and sniff smiley sticker… ah, well, a girl can hope 🙂

  62. That was fun! Have been reading the blog for ages, but still had to go back a couple of times for some of them.

Congrats on making the 10,000,000 Philip! Here’s to another 10,000,000 ;D
