  • Last night’s photo of me by @sarahseal gave me serious déjà Vu when I saw it! The top photo was taken 10 years earlier, back in the golden, and much simpler, days of the @canonusa 5Dmkii with my @zacuto rig. The bottom photo is with my @sigmauk fp home brew rig (which is broken down in detail in my previous post so check it out!) My beard is greyed but I think my hair is better! One thing that has really changed for the better is camera technology. Crazy that I am recording 12 bit raw to that tiny 2tb SSD from a full frame sensor. #10yearchallenge (is that still a thing??) I gotta say it again but DAMN that new @rodemic videomic NTG is crazy good. I mean it’s like they thought of everything feature wise we could possibly want AND made it sound amazing!
  • My super stable and light #MacGyver rig for the @sigmauk fp camera. At the top is the really amazing new @rodemic Videomic NTG (which I will talk about in a separate post) 2tb SSD from @wiseadvanced for 12bit cinema DNG recorded via USB-C with a @tiltamax bracket. Various clamps, rods and plates from @smallrig_official and other companies. The wooden support is VERY OLD! Much older than me even! It’s from a Bolex 8mm film camera. The fp has the 50mm ART on it and their viewfinder loupe on the back. Actually here are a few killer features of the Videomic NTG; Its so well built and very light, you can dial in EXACTLY the output level on the back dial so no if your camera pre-Amps are weak or strong you can get the perfect level. You can also has the smooth dial to adjust your recording volume easily on the fly. You can also set it to safety mode where the right channel sends out a signal -20db lower than the left. It can be plugged into a computer or phone directly via usb and is soumdd almost as good as their NTG-5 Photo taken by @sarahseal
  • Pro tip: Never leave your wallet on the coffee table when you’re stuck in the office editing as you never know what your cat might order online as revenge for ignoring her!   • How do you define a face? That’s the question I asked the @sonyprofilmmaking FX9 yesterday whilst visiting @teralonmedia It wasn’t really a fair test as it was always going to see my photo realistic drawing as a real face. I was in face only autofocus mode so it would only change focus if it saw a face. Featuring @guyvellis @julianwake @bowen1466 Clearly this review is shaping up to be the review to end all reviews 🤓🙃
  • This afternoon I did a little bit of testing of the @sonyprofilmmaking FX9 autofocus. Here are a few clips. Mostly using the “face only” mode so it ignored everything else and if it lost the face it would hold it that position. Very useful. It’s what I used at the end too when I leave frame. Lenses used were were the Sony 70-200 F2.8 GM and the @sigmauk 105mm F1.4 EF with MC11 adaptor. The last shot of me talking was the Sony 35mm F1.8 Shot with S Cinetone mode and also S Log 3 S Gamut Cine (I think but would need to double check that) with the S709 LUT for the Sony Venice downloaded from their website. Basically they look the same which is great. So nothing done in post to the images other than putting the LUT onto the S Log 3 shots. Yes I know, Facebook compression etc etc but you will see the footage properly in my review. 🙂 Check out my stories for more info on the profiles used.
  • After 11 years of camera/ gear reviews on YouTube it gets harder and harder to get shots of them all in different and creative ways. The @sonyprofilmmaking FX9 shots from last night are looking good though. Superb lights from @relio_it and the amazing @aputuretech MC mini RGB light helped a lot! Plus there is some cool motion control in it using the @rhinocg ARC II motorised pan and tilt head which probably won’t look that cool here as this post is not a video! 🙂 The actual shot is the 2nd image in this post. 1st is a crop. Photo with the @slrmagic 35mm micro prime (same image as the little cine lens)

  • The @sigmauk #Sigmafp camera is working a lot better thanks to the new firmware release a week ago. The image issues like the flickering have gone. It’s still got a number of key things I would like to be improved but it’s getting there. It’s a unique camera, something different. Is it better than what is already out there? Well...it’s just different. I am sure that answer satisfies you completely! 😃 There are some photos of Harriet in this post and I will stick them on Flickr for you to look at (Flickr.com/Philipbloom) All of them are shot with the very nice and compact 45mm F2.8 lens that you can buy with the camera. My testing...when I able to get away from the edit suite which is basically where I live right now! That’s the @samsunguk T5 on a @smallrig_official bracket which I use to shoot the (uncompressed) CDNG raw in 10 of 12 bit depending on frame rate.
