Every year we\u2019re reimagining filmic possibilities and honing our production skills; on\u00a0DSLR, film-like imagery, making perfect slider shots, flying aerial platforms to mobilising\u00a0our cameras on stabilisation devices. There\u2019s a learning curve with this new technology\u00a0that keeps us all on our mettle, and seemingly since the 5dMk2 came out* in 2010 &#8211;\u00a0transfixed on shooting. And yet, there is so much more to the filmmaking process, some\u00a0old and some new.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The old stuff is still worth knowing too, because unless you\u2019re modus operandi is a box\u00a0opening video, it\u2019s massively helpful to know a bit about pre production, dare I say it &#8211; film\u00a0theory (even), developing your ideas, storyboarding, budgeting etc. The other \u2018new\u2019 things,\u00a0that I, at least find exciting, are the prospects for improved post production and distribution.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<div>Platforms like Wipster <a href=\"(http:\/\/wipster.io)\">(http:\/\/wipster.io)<\/a>or Movidiam <a href=\"(http:\/\/www.movidiam.com)\">(http:\/\/www.movidiam.com)<\/a> are\u00a0shaping up nicely to help us filmmakers showcase our films and improve our workflows\u00a0and as a for a goal &#8211; the doors of Amazon Studios are now wide open for your scripts or\u00a0films. I\u2019m Adam Loretz a filmmaker with 15 years\u00a0experience of shooting and editing, mostly corporates (but very much headed towards\u00a0narrative films). I am always curious about the filmmaking process, there is so much to\u00a0learn about each production role. Lucky for me, I have a great network of filmmaker friends\u00a0to ask questions. Whilst I\u2019m at it, I thought &#8211; \u2018why not shoot this and share it\u2019.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>So, What are we waiting for? Well, lots of technological evolution kicks up dirt &#8211; and as the\u00a0dust settles the filmmakers path reappears, parts of it reshaped and the journey not always\u00a0clear (just tweet @vincentlaforet Vincent LaForet about Pre roll and clapperboards or\u00a0filmmaking craft). Needless to say, I\u2019m as excited as the next filmmaker about joining up\u00a0the dots between the old and the new elements of the modern filmmaking process.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>With a little more orientation and sharing, I\u2019m sure we can all make greater progress on\u00a0our filmmaking journeys.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>I\u2019m shining my light in two ways for the filmmaking cause, through an online and event\u00a0entity called The Filmmakers Workshop <a href=\"www.thefilmmakersworkshop.co.uk%20\">www.thefilmmakersworkshop.co.uk\u00a0<\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Firstly, I\u2019m taking it to the top &#8211; interviewing directors, writers, DOPs and other production\u00a0crew about their experiences in the filmmaking process. I kicked this off a few months ago\u00a0interviewing a couple of first time feature directors, Drew Casson (Hungerford) and David\u00a0LG Hughes (Hard Boiled Sweets). For those of you who are thinking &#8211; \u2018He said he was\u00a0taking it to the top\u2019 &#8211; You got it!
