  1. Bradley Stearn Not quite so new!

Here is my first attempt at a starscape timelapse using my Canon DSLR. I shot with an EF 50mm f/1.8 lens, 20 second exposure, 25 second intervals using Magic Lantern v2.3.

I know the video is short, but overall what do you think of it?

  2. Adam Roberts Chatty!

not much there to comment on. was the camera move down in post? seems very steppy.

Some random thoughts... Compare and contrast with

Which is a complete opposite in many ways (including length). But many useful takeaways from it.

I'd go for a much wider lens.

In the above example, 30 second exposures were used with a 5 second gap. Your timelapse shows motion blur even though your exposures are shorter, because 50mm is more of a telephoto lens on the T3i. Also, were you using the lens wide open? It can help to close the iris by at least one stop to improve the overall sharpness of the lens.

Interesting comments in the long video about using 'Noise Reduction' in-camera - yours is pretty clean in comparison, but without the 'reach' and perhaps the NEO trails. I would have thought Noise Reduction, like Sharpening, is better done in post.
