Polarizing filter?

I'm going to Barcelona next month and considering a polarizing filter, but I just want to hear peoples experiences with these type of filters. How are they for video work?

And would they be possible to use with variable ND filters?

I use a B&W polarizer which I'm very happy with.

Polarizers can be used for video, as long as you don't rotate the camera. The effect of the polarizer is determined by the angle of the lens to the sun. If you do static shots or slider moves, the angle stays the same as does the effect. If you start panning however, you will see the strength of the effects varying within your shot.

I personally don't use my polarizer with my vari nd, since that would mean two rotating filters on my lens. While I'm sure it can be done in theory, I think it would be a hassle in practice. If you want to combine a polarizer and an nd, I would suggest you buy a mattebox with rotating slots.

Thanks for your reply, Mattijs.I think I'll get a Hoya polarizing filter for my lenses, I'm sure it help will the colours of my outdoor shooting.

Yeah, I was thinking how it could be a nightmare with two rotating filters, probably something best to avoid. It also seems that polarizers will reduce some of the incoming light anyway.
