Just for fun, let's assume we get a breakthrough with 3D screens that can be viewed without glasses - not Star Wars 'in the round' holographic projection, just our current 3D without glasses. Let's also assume 4K screens come out at the same price point, maybe a little more, but much bigger - 25-50% bigger compared to a current supermarket HDTV.

Which way do you think the market will swing?

I feel we should move to 4k and drop 3D and stick with 24p.

I'm not hating on 3D but some people just do not like it and some people hate frame rates higher then 24p and I'm not talking about camera people I'm talking about TV viewers only.

I know the Hobbit is being filmed at 48 frames and maybe people just have to sit down and give it a try but for the other people they need a 24p. I heard they are working out ways to convert 48p to a good 24p to make everyone happy. I think they are adding a blur effect in post?

Good call on 48p - added it to the poll! That's another interesting area - are we just SO conditioned to 24p that we may have another generation to go before we'll accept narrative at 48-60p? I wonder about my 8 year old son, will he develop the 48-60 habit? He'll inevitably fall into computer gaming sometime soon, with its high frame rates - and games are, to a certain degree an interactive B-Movie.

I'm still to do a high end corporate at 50p as there's still the tug to 'high production value' at 25p, but I can see mid end corporate embracing 50p and certainly the indsutrial/training/how-to market will love it. But that tends to emphasise the great divide between 'soap opera' and 'cinema' presentation style.

As the 'bit budget' for 4K is going to be be tight, that will probably keep us at 25p, though as screens get larger, so the higher frame rate helps tremendously. Maybe we get more 105" 1080p screens for 50p work...
