  1. YazTorii I'm new!

    Hi

I'm looking for ways to go at day for night shooting in a forest. We're on a pretty tight budget, so it's hard to get any proper lighting or setup. We've got a small handheld LED lights but thats about it.
What advices would you suggest for good day for night shoots?

    thank you!
  2. Christopher Kelley Not quite so new!

Here is a sample of day for night we did for our new movie purely in after effects, no special lighting at all. Andrew Kramer has a wonderful tutorial for something similar on videocopilot.net that should put you in the right direction. What really sells the effect are little details. For our shot, we had streetlights we could crudely illuminate, car headlights, etc. The only thing we didn't have time for was adding interior glow for any rooms that may have been occupied in the shot...everything looks vacant, but that works for our movie. A forest may have fewer little details to help you sell the effect, but if you can apply some simple effects in post and pay extra special attention to how the sun is affecting your shot (overcast is better, in my opinion), you should be able to pull it off.
