D7000 prime lens choice for video?

  1. Tom Abbott I'm new!

A lifelong, 60 year, film/dslr photographer, normally using Canon, have just acquired a D7000, with 18-105 kit lens, to make use of many Nikon lenses which I have for a Nikon F5.
The video posibility is intriguing especially as we are visiting Patagonia.
Which of the following nikon lenses would you take?
    AF Nikor 28-70mm f3.5-4.5
    AF Micro Nikor 60mm f2.8
    AF Nikkor20mm f2.8
    AF Nikkor 80-200 f2.8
These are all FX lenses so on the D7000 have to add 50% to focal length.
    Thanks for any advice
  2. Adam Roberts Chatty!

For video I prefer manual focus AI or AIS lenses. The focus throw is much longer and they are build like tanks.

I'd look for a few used lenses.
    24mm f2.8
35mm f2 (or if you can find one and afford it 35mm f1.4)
    50mm f1.4

A nice manual zoom is the 35-70mm f3.5.

If you have the budget you could look at the Zeiss ZF.2 range of lenses.

Looking at you list they all appear to be AF-D lenses. So they would not autofocus for video. AF-D lenses have mechanical manual focus which is great but the throw is not as large as the AI or AIS and most are not as well made as the older lenses.

On you list I'd grab the 20mm, 60mm macro and the 80-200mm. All really nice lenses.
