  • The @sonyalpha #A7RIV has just been officially unveiled. I’ve had about an hour hands on this afternoon and hope to do a quick video about it later. Key features are a new 61mp sensor and big jump in autofocus performance in stills and video. Eye autofocus works in video now too. Biggest disappointment is the video is still only 8 bit internal and external. Also max frame rate in 4K is still 29.97p. Image quality is very impressive. I will share some full resolution samples later! Oh and price is £3500
  • (7 photos) You may have noticed how rarely I have posted here recently. That’s because I have been pretty much stuck at home editing now for about two and a half months with only a couple of brief escapes for little shoots (and that 3 day trip to Galway where I squeezed in that @rodemic wireless go review) so there is little new to post. Whilst the computer does long exports or renders I try to do something creative or constructive. My last post was the atmospheric photos of my cats, the one before the edit of my robot vacuums getting it on, in fact you will see quite a few of those tutors of posts. If you follow my @thebloomcats account you will see I built them a nice secure outdoor space which they adore. Next was the bird table which has 3 fantastic uses: Give the birds in my garden some food (many nest in one of my trees) Provide something hypnotic for the cats in the catio to watch without any danger of them killing the birds. Give me something different to take photos of during those breaks. These are apparently house sparrows. Still a good month or more of editing to go...what shall I do next?? 🙂 Photos with remotely triggered Canon EOS R in lovely light with the 35mm RF. Dawn shots with the Sony A7R3 and 70-200mm F2.8 GM
  • (10 photos) A simple demonstration as to how adding a simple hard-light as a backlight transforms the sweetest of cats to something a lot more sinister and atmospheric. I used the little USB powered Relio 2 light (photo 7) from Italy. It’s a very impressive little thing! Super high quality and incredibly tiny! @sonyalpha A7RIII and Samyang 35mm F1.4 @thebloomcats
  • Following on from my previous post where my rig was looking rather chaotic (for a very good reason!) this is what it looked like most of the time this week. Some commenters were going on about the previous photo was "too rigged, what's the point blah blah", well they clearly need to understand a bit more about rigging for the situation. I never have superfluous stuff on my camera. I like my stuff as light as possible. A big part of why that previous photo looked messy was the unflattering angle, the XLR, headphones and strap hanging over the side as well as the massive Eye Direct on the front. It actually isn’t that bad at all! The photo here is almost the bare minimum I would use for this camera on a professional shoot. When shooting handheld I would take off the monitor and just use the EVF. This is what is in this photo. @kinefinity Mavo LF, @SmallHD​ 702 touch, @portkeys_monitor EVF (nice but needs some work), @fujinonlenses MK, @peakdesign​ strap, @rodemic NTG4, @Zacuto​ Z-American arm, coiled SDI cable and braided XLR can’t remember where from, @Movcam​ cage and hand held rig with EVF arm, @sachtlersystems FSB8 head on the flowtech sticks. Oh that’s a Movoton battery with my own branding on for extra anonymity.
  • This has to be the most messy my camera rig has ever looked. Can you even work out what’s in there??? 😩😃
  • I have two robot vacuums on the ground floor which do a fantastic job of sucking up all that cat hair. They are on different levels, the Eufy one is on the lower level and the Roborock does the rest of the ground floor. Both have sensors to detect any drop to stop them falling. At 3am they both do their daily scheduled clean.... I came down this morning to find them stacked on top of one another. Instantly I thought that I must have a poltergeist! Thankfully I solved the mystery with my two security Nest cameras and Petcube treat dispenser camera! This is THEIR story. Welcome to “Paranormal Activity 7: It sucks!” This is exactly as it happened. I was asleep in bed. No manual control was used.
  • I am using the new @smallhd 702 touch and it’s an utterly gorgeous monitor. 1600 nits, hdmi/ sdi cross conversion and so much more. Love it.
